There was no shortage of drama at the Dublin Horse Show as the Aga Khan Nations Cup once again brought the RDS crowd to its feet. In the end, the Dutch were untouchable, posting a faultless team score to lift the famous trophy. Germany and Ireland both finished on four faults, but a quicker combined time nudged the Germans into second and left the home side settling for third.
It wasn’t all disappointment for the Irish fans, though. The real story of the afternoon belonged to the team’s youngest members, Seamus Hughes Kennedy and Tom Wachman. Both rose to the occasion with ice-cool clear rounds, despite the pressure of riding in one of the sport’s most iconic arenas. Wachman went one better — producing a double clear that had the grandstands roaring and the tricolour waving long after he’d crossed the finish line.
